...but let's explain the basic build of laminate anyway. The centre of the laminate is not solid wood but compressed chipboard that is laminated with several layers. One layer gives it its colour and sometimes structure, and on top of that is a melamine surface layer that protects against wear, moisture and heat. 

The material quality of any laminate worktop depends a lot on the number and quality of layers and the composition of the central chipboard. Kvik laminate is of higher quality than standard laminate thanks to more layers and denser and more complex chipboards with better-quality melamine.

Laminate comes in a range of thicknesses from 20 mm to 60 mm - so laminate can give the tabletop an excellent look and feel.

Edges - ?

Because the design is layered onto the worktop, the edges profile is often the factory-made profile - but cuts can, to some extent, be tailor-made on the spot. The number of edge profiles is limited.
